linux-generic software package provides Complete Generic Linux kernel and headers, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install linux-generic
linux-generic is installed in your system.
Make ensure the linux-generic package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep linux-generic *
You will get with linux-generic package name, version, architecture and description in a table
